2.1. Student Printing on Pharos
As of August 1st, 2011, Emory Law School has changed its student printing services from PCounter to Pharos, which is hosted by Emory University. This means that we will have dedicated support from Pharos-trained technicians who are Emory UTS employees.
Why is PHAROS better than the old system?
- PHAROS allows users to print jobs from release stations located next to the actual printers, leading to reduced waste and fewer lost print jobs.
- PHAROS works with a standard package of drivers, so once you've downloaded those once, all your printers will be available to you (no more having to add the color printer at the last minute for an assignment you need to turn in 5 minutes from now).
- No more reprinting jobs and having to get a refund! Our staff will be able to move your print job from one printer to another or complete a partially completed job (in cases of jams or low toner printing) for you, so you'll get what you pay for without having to pay twice and get a refund.
- You can add funds to your account any time, day or night – see below!
How do I add money to my account now?
- Adding money to your Emory Card is easy, and now you don't have to wait for our staff to help you! You can quickly and easily transfer funds to your account by logging into OPUS, just go to "FINANCES" and click on "MAKE AN EMORYCARD DEPOSIT":
Your deposit will normally post to your EmoryCard within one hour!
But I'm working for a professor as an RA this year, how do I print for them?
SIMPLE! You'll still need to fill out a proxy/RA form for the us, but if you need to print or make copies for a professor, simply take your files on a thumbdrive or the materials you need copied to IST and they'll do the work and bill it to the professor's account. We'll make sure they have a of all student RA's and which professor they're working for.
But I'm on journal this year, how does that work?
Rather than a separate journal login, each journal will have a dedicated user card kept at the desk so when you're ready to print you can just go check out the card from the desk. These cards may not leave the Law Library, so if you're doing work at other libraries on campus, please save your work and print it here (this will enable everyone who needs to print for journal work to do so with minimal delays).
What about my $35 annual deposit?
The Law School will be adding $35 of free printing to all Law Student accounts this year, but there will be some key differences:
- The $35 added to your Emory Card will be dedicated to printing only – you will not be able to use it for anything else (food, copies) – this value will work only with PHAROS.
- The $35 will expire 8/31/2012. Unlike PCounter, these funds are only good for the academic year they are added and will not rollover for subsequent years. However, any funds you add yourself via OPUS or at a charging station will carry over from year to year.
But I lost my ID last year, so I don't have one . . . .
You'll need to get a replacement from the Emory Card Office. Since you need your ID for printing and building access, you'll want to get the replacement as soon as possible.
